WA Election - All systems go on the Matt Taylor show

It is absolutely all systems go in Bicton as we head towards the very pointy end of the 2017 WA State Election Campaign. With just a solitary sleep until the big day, we have had an action-packed day full of campaigning as we seek the reelection of Matt Taylor MLA to State Parliament. The newly created seat of Bicton is shaping up to be one of the bellwether seats at this election, making the past week very exciting for myself and fellow EDO Brandon Bodel (ACT) who has also been working on the Bicton campaign.

The Bicton team was up nice and early this morning for our final sign waving session for the week. We received plenty of waves and friendly toots as we took to the streets in one of the battleground suburbs of the electorate. We then spent the next couple of hours letter boxing the final batches of letters to constituents before joining in for some door knocking, with Federal Member for Tangney, Ben Morton MP and Matt Taylor, also hitting the streets. After a quick break for lunch, Brandon and myself headed to the electorate office to make some last ditch phone calls to voters to try to sway some people late in the campaign.

This evening our attention shifts to the South Metropolitan region where the Blue Army will be out in full force for an election eve blitz to assist with the setup of polling booths in key seats, including Bicton. The team will be spending the night decking out local schools, sport clubs and town halls, with Liberal campaign material in preparation for tomorrow’s polling.

Matt and his band of merry men have been relentless throughout the campaign as they seek a return to State Parliament. Matt has been campaigning on key local issues such as the construction of the crucial Roe 8 and 9 projects, with these congestion busting projects helping to create up to 10,000 jobs for West Australians whilst making roads in the Bicton electorate and surrounding areas, safer to travel on. Matt has also announced other key commitments which include a significant $10 million commitment for Melville Senior High School, to go towards a new performing arts centre and refurbished classrooms, a $1 million upgrade for the Bicton Baths precinct and a $150,000 feasibility study to assist with the East Fremantle Football Club redevelopment into a new sporting, community and recreation precinct.

I must thank the Bicton campaign for having us on board throughout the week and especially Grant and Josh for all their help. A big thank you must also go out to party member Lorelie for providing us with accommodation and wonderful hospitality throughout the week.

The Bicton team remains energised and raring to go as we enter the final 24 hours of the election campaign, hopeful that we can turn Bicton blue and get the win for Matt.
