The Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced that the Federal Government will end Australian aid being provided to the Palestinian Authority and instead redirect our Aid to the United Nations' efforts in the region. In her announcement, the Minister said:
Any assistance provided by the Palestine Liberation Organisation to those convicted of politically motivated violence is an affront to Australian values, and undermines the prospect of meaningful peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
This significant and very welcome decision follows the Liberal Party's Federal Council supporting our motion a fortnight ago to end aid to the Palestinian Authority until they terminate the Martyr's Fund which rewards terrorists based on how many Israeli citizens they kill or maim. You can watch Federal President Josh Manuatu's speech to Council here:
This is just another example where the Young Liberals have made the case, led the charge and achieved results off the back of a policy motion that started in a local Young Liberal branch that made it all the way to Federal Council.
